Also the article doesn’t really clarify this: those 4 young patients, the hospital said that this info was incorrect I believe because no patient info would have been released to the public, but it did caution the use of ibuprofen.

There are some studies that suggest some NSAIDs to help reduce viral load, and may in fact be useful. Again, more research and corroborated reports are needed. I’m seeing reports in Germany saying this is fake news. Same with in Ireland.

And obviously for people on steroids, namely, asthmatics and allergy sufferers, it’s even more worrying and frustrating because the tweet from the French health minister mentioned cortisoids but those are very different to NSAIDs.

(*in general*, the advice that paracetamol, not ibuprofen, would be the drug of first resort is sound, and I can see why the bmj has no hesitation publishing it – please reserve "fake news" for actual fake news.)https://twitter.com/SLevelt/status/1239929874036469760 …Sjoerd Levelt added,

I mean, there was fake news around this, from WhatsApp messages circulating and such.

I say this as someone who has been looking into this from several health professionals on here since it started circulating, as the steroid info may impact me directly.

And I do wish I see more people publishing or reporting on those who are both denying the links or saying we need more information. There is a thread on this that went viral the other day, and the guy just started posting articles about negative effects of NSAIDs, causing panic.

Man isn’t a doctor and was refusing to post or link to tweets and articles disagreeing, so it was just making it much worse. It’s very annoying at the outset because there is such little info.

Definitely had a freak out about it when it was first circulating though, with my own medication. But mine is such a low dose that it probably doesn’t have much impact on the immune system.

yes – there's a real worry that people will be freaked out by bad info into stopping taking the drugs they need to be well.

I think that is a very serious worry. People read stuff on the internet and don’t fact check and are afraid to call the doctor for various reasons. Blaaah.
