Okay! Internet! I have a request for ACTUAL ADVICE! Please read closely before offering. (No, I will not take up yoga. It has too many dark memories of cannibalism and that boyfriend that stole my mom’s underwear.)

The topic is SKIN CARE! I am middle-aged, I only barely remember to moisturize, and my skin is feeling it. (Please do not reply with “I don’t do anything to mine and I’m fine.” That is great for you, but not helpful for me.)

But I do not know what of all the stuff at the vast beauty aisle works and what is designed to separate the insecure from their money. I do not mind looking old, but I would prefer not to look tired.

I have had oily skin my whole life, now I’ve got a weirdly dry forehead and my chin will have acne until the end of time. Stuff does not snap back as fast as it used to from the CPAP mask.

I spent my youth trying very hard Not To Be Like Other Girls because internalized misogyny, so assume I know absolutely nothing about skin care products beyond “wash it and I dunno, put some Burt’s Bees lotion stuff on it.” I am allergic and sensitive to nothing, though, so yay!

So I use a clay cleanser and a vitamin c night cream at night, same cleanser and an oil free SPF moisturizer during the day. I use matte makeup from NYX. I have dry cheeks and eyebrows but oily everywhere else and that seems to do the trick.

Some people might recommend oil cleansing but idk, I’m not convinced that’s actually good since I’ve not seen a lot of dermatological studies on it. I use a salicylic acid spot treatment for acne. Glycolic acid is gentler though and also works.
