information is more easily delivered in recognizable packets. it's comfy for the brain. this should be really obvious to an editor of a major newspaper? like opinion pages have conventions too! why do we get fifty articles titled "bernie sanders is just as dangerous as DT"...

there is actually something in my head that makes me pay attention to tweets if they are in a meme format of some kind, or associated with gifs or vernacular language. And it shifts all the time. I guarantee in a few months there will be some new tweet conventions too.

Absolutely. The most interesting thing to me about the internet era is the rapid pace of change in communication norms. Like a decade ago you could make an entire very serious point in Lolcat-speak and everyone would be like "ok yeah that's legitimate" but now it wouldn't work
