People don’t seem to get that social interaction that is conversation esp with multiple people is just maddening sometimes and requires a lot of attention. I often just not do things so I can work but then I can’t focus on work and it’s the worst.

I've realized I categorize socializing as like a third category that is neither work nor relaxing -- like it's fun and i know i need it but damn if i don't need a break after

YES. When I tell people it is mentally exhausting and I have to prepare...it’s like “whaaaaa?”

Yes! I'm just lucky my wife's an introvert so we've developed signals for when it's time to GTFO of a social situation lol

Man I’m from a family of introverts
they still wanna talk for hours, but they hate big social stuff too. Thankfully “I’m tired” is a good excuse for any occasion.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

Man I wish, I did that as a teenager and was told when I was an adult that I couldn’t do that anymore

Maybe, but idk. There’s a high status placed on “visiting” in my family. My brothers get a pass because they are a decade older than me and have jobs and cars. If I’m here I’ve only ever been with my mom, so I don’t get an excuse I guess?

Hmm yeah, that's a pickle. My family are all workaholics so we hang out for a bit, go to different rooms and do computer things all day, then reconvene for food at various intervals. it's great

That sounds ideal. Lol. Thankfully when I visit for most of the time it’s just me and mom. And my brothers will leave because they need to drive and they get tired, etc.

Makes sense! And yeah tired always works as an excuse. As does "need to do some emails" or some vague thing that explains why you're on your computer, in my experience at least

PhD work would be useful but then I gotta show I’m working lol. Emails wouldn’t be a good excuse for me haha.
