I finished my BA and my MPhil and started my PhD. I travelled a lot, mostly to the UK and Ireland but I got to visit Italy, Switzerland, and France.

Perhaps most importantly, I moved to Scotland for a year and that’s where I met my boyfriend
@AlexDJones, and we both moved to Ireland to do our MPhils and PhDs. We’ve been together for most of the decade too.2 replies 0 retweets 6 likesShow this thread -
I’ve met some truly amazing people on here, learned A LOT, taught myself knitting, learned a few new languages.

To finish off the decade it feels strange to say, but I have extreme relief as I just talked to my GP today about potentially having ADHD and she confirmed it. It no longer feels like I am screaming into the void about what I have experienced since childhood.

What I’ll do to manage it I’ll not do until the new year but it’s something I want to get a handle on.

This has also been the decade where I developed some chronic pain issues and trying to deal with that plus internal guilt over needing some level of accessibility but not to the same extent as many others, and whether I have the right to talk about disability

It has been a struggle, and I don’t want to take space that isn’t necessarily mine, which conflicts also with my very real experiences of being in intense pain and not being able to walk or move easily, or use more than a few stairs. It’s hard.

There were many times I despaired but I came through, accepted it, and now I deal with it. And in the whole, I feel lucky to have done and do what I do. I love my research and having met so many amazing people in academia and outside on here has enriched my life.

I met some pretty awesome people IRL too. Most don’t follow me on here but I feel very lucky to know them and have known them.

Oh and also I guess I became an amateur birdwatcher
I always loved birds, but now I try to watch out for them and photograph them. My mom just got me some binoculars and a bird book for Christmas (I didn’t even ask for them from my family but she got the book I wanted).1 reply 0 retweets 5 likesShow this thread
So I’m very excited about that.
