The Parthenon was destroyed during war with the Ottomans for example, if Greek marbles hadn't been taken who knows what would remain today. Or more recently with the monuments in Palmyra being destroyed by ISIS. The British Museum has, like it or not, preserved a lot of it.

They also further wrecked the Parthenon marbles, and Greece has been asking for them back since their Independence from the Ottoman Empire. They have no right to steal, and this argument is garbage.
