This pretty much sums it up & I give up as this is one of the best exemplums for #WhiteFragility I have ever seen & I know that @ADMedievalist is nothing like Guy Halsall or Howard Williams, e.g. But she’s sadly in the wrong, nevertheless. Good night & good luck, ADM, I’m done.https://twitter.com/ADMedievalist/status/1200100227404980224 …

Exactly. If your apology is "i'm sorry you feel that way, now listen as I say the exact same thing again" it's not actually an apology

I can’t disagree with that. I think part of what I am finding difficult is that I completely agree with this when talking about BIPOC as a group. Racism is structural, full stop & I would never try to argue that on that level (& individually) BIPOC aren’t always handling more

But what has happened many times in this longer discussion is that *any* critique or calling out of the (non-racialized) actions of a particular BIPOC is taken as an attack on all, and the person who makes it is thus dismissed as a racist.

Calling out people for being assholes, hypocrites, etc., is not inherently racist or homophobic or misogynistic. I admit it’s really hard in the context of a larger discussion of racism. But I think we need to get a handle on it, bc it’s getting in the way

True but done in convos with
#antiracist scholars & directed at them is a lose-lose proposition. No one is perfect & we all make missteps & say stupid shit sometimes but if you want room to call *some* antiracist activists jerks, you might ask yourself why this is so important. - Show replies
