I guess this is one of the problems I see with this entire long conversation. Are there people who say racism isn’t a problem? No one denies that. The disagreements are about degree, form, remedy, etc. — consistently mischaracterized as not caring about racism = being racists

When all of the white medievalists who have been wanting to split hairs finally stop talking and say, we’re ready to stop being so defensive and will actually listen now, then we’ll be making progress.

To be clear
@ADMedievalist: you & others could have called LOTS of titles into question if you wanted to but chose the one by@erik_kaars because you wanted to embarrass him & smear his reputation: are you at all asking yourself not only why you are doing this & digging in on it?3 replies 2 retweets 13 likes -

Of course I chose
@erik_kaars title on purpose. Not to smear him, but bc he’s one of several people who’ve repeatedly misread/misframed the tweets of others while encouraging dogpiles. His book title can easily be misread (& for me, kinda triggery). That is the point2 replies 0 retweets 5 likes -

I think we will continue to disagree there. I agree that the long title cannot be, but the short title can, and I found it triggery the first couple times I heard it.

Okay, then it’s triggering for you. I have triggers too, but that doesn’t mean the title is inherently sexist or misogynistic. There are plenty of other publications with similar titles, do you take this same approach with those? Evidently not.

Please read again what I wrote. It’s an analogy. A short title like that is open to misreading & drawing conclusions about the author’s attitudes in the way he and others have misread &c statements by others — & used them to dogpile for months.

Again, do you take the same approach with other titles that are very similar? I suspect not. This is a very transparent attack on Erik who has been calling out those who attack BIPOC and ECRs. He has not been dogpiling, and you are clearly grasping at straws here.
