It comes from primary sources, not from later revisionists. It's not "inaccurate" or "misleading" if you remember that and use appropriately. This whole thing is so disingenuous.

King Alfred the Great styled himself "rex Angul-Saxonum", while Athelstan liked "Angelsaxonum Denorumque gloriosissimus rex". Similar variations used also by various continental observers. There is clear precedent from primary sources.

We’ve acknowledged them. Limited usage, and outsiders using them isn’t a good reason. Legal sources do not indicate they were how people ID’d. There are more accurate terminologies with longer and more extensive usage: Angli, English, Anglian, even Saxon on it’s own is used more

That is a completely ridiculous, frivolous, arbitrary, artificial, anti-intellectual, etc etc.. standard. They come from *primary sources*. It's a part of history. They have authority in the appropriate sphere on influence. Full stop. We don't bury history.

No one is burying history. We are simply acknowledging it is not an accurate ethnonym, and it’s well-documented racist early modern usage.

Exactly the reason not to empower revisionist hacks. Don’t give them the last word on the meaning. That’s what we have primary sources for. Let them speak for themselves.

Literally no. You’re trying to sap the power of these people (not a bad thing) by “retiring” the word. i.e. if we don’t use it anymore they [cant claim legitimacy/diminishes their mythology/whatever]. This is a tacit admission that they get the last word on the definition.

1.) I think that is misplaced and wont even work as intended. It’s not going to make them give up their mythology OR make them sound any less ridiculous. They already sound ridiculous! 2.) It WILL unfairly tarnish a part of real history and diminish the vocabulary of students...
