the issue with the response remains that the authors are (a) misunderstanding what medieval religion was (including how it functioned - didn't - as an institution), and (b) that it misunderstands medieval kinship/ marriage

Yes, because they didn’t even look at medieval (or early modern) data, apparently. How can you study the medieval period without medieval data? Plus their assumptions about which places had influence from the Church are also incorrect. We’ve said this. Over and over.

Someone rudely pointed out to me yesterday they did not even attempt use medieval data so
The data is all contemporary it seems.
