I've been informed (rudely) that the premise of this paper is a scientific view of an argument discussed by Michael Mitteraurer, Why Europe? But I know nothing about this book, so I can't speak on its scholarship.

Reading reviews of books isn’t a good way to get a grasp on them but it seems that his methodology and premise has been questioned as well.
