I don't see how referring to early medieval English people as "early medieval English people" erases English history.

Is there a more evocative term we could perhaps use than "early medieval", though? The period is so fascinating, that that this term seems to underplay it? (Although it's admittedly still a whole lot better than the "the Dark Ages".)
