I always found reminder emails helpful for me (because honestly I always had a lot to read) so I send them out too. Seems to work for the most part.https://twitter.com/katalves18c/status/1192299086357188608 …

A month ago, frustrated at the rate of "did not do the reading" in class, I opened my class with an honest discussion of what they needed from me to get the work done. We workshopped a few suggestions, and one solution has had a profound impact:

Much of my course prep once a course is designed centers on scheduling announcements with reading reminders. Then the only trick is making sure I stay on that schedule and don't spend and extra day open Astrophel and Stella or something.

LMS platforms also facilitate phone notifications. Showing students how to use those is great because many don't regularly check their school email as often as their phone. Basically, I'm saying I ruin their day by reminding them to read The Pilgrim's Progress.

That would be nice, suspect it would be another decade before my institution got something like that.

You point to my biggest culture shock moving from Loyola to my job at a two-year college. At Loyola, we were lucky if a professor put a syllabus up online. Rose State was light years ahead on classroom software and course design.
