Why didn't llamas make it to North America? Too many parasites in the tropics between them and the Plains? Just wondering why there weren't vast llama herds on the Great Plains

I mean with people herding them, I haven't had coffee yet and I was thinking "sheep spread to Orkney and Southern Africa and China, why didn't llamas spread from the Andes to other grazeable lands?" So I mean not on their own, but with the expertise and protection of their humans

Like, trade networks in the Western Hemisphere were a thing of wonder before colonization, with stuff from the Great Lakes ending up in the South, etc. Surely a stray alpaca sock made it to the northern continent at some point. One touch and I woulda gone on an alpaca quest

This is a really good point. I wonder if maybe they did bring some up but it just wasn’t an en masse thing?
