I just got an email notifying me of a mysterious locked safe of unknown origins, lurking in the bowels of Trinity College History Department. Anyone else think we've stumbled into an Indiana Jones movie, and will it contain the Holy Grail of a border agreement?

Weird. Not the first time something’s been found. Dr Tom Smith (who is now at Leeds) found a 16th c book under some stuff in his office after he moved in back in 2015.

Yeah I think everyone was confused, because it meant that the guy who held the office last (who had retired) had that book for goodness knows how long. I think that the library was going to buy it from Tom, but I don’t know if he did it or not.

I have heard of people walking out of manuscript libraries with manuscripts (by accident). I wonder if that's what happened?

I’m not sure, I can’t recall the full story or if we ever found out where that book came from. I had a feeling that it wasn’t accidentally taken from a library though if TCD wanted to buy it. I have a feeling that it was acquired/purchased from somewhere.

Interesting! Now every time I visit my office I'll have a tiny hope of finding a sixteenth-century treasure. :D
