And one thing (let’s use as short hand the ‘old guard’) haven’t seemed to have thought about is that this ISXX listserve creates an auto archive too. 3/?

As someone who works on contemporary ‘Anglo-Saxonism’, this listserve, these screenshots of public conversations, are a self generating primary source. 4/?

Folks posting vitriol/ uncritical statements about ‘Anglo-Saxon race’ or ‘heritage’... whew. You may be screenshots now, but one day you’ll be a footnote in a journal or book. Preserved for scholars of the future to understand their discipline. 5/?

Thing is, I get the firm impression that many of the folks exemplifying the racism (and especially misogynoir) of the field don’t think they are getting it so wrong. This archive is - will be - powerful. 6/?

We - those fighting to eradicate sexism, racism, transphobia and the rest from medieval studies - are already using this archive to protect ourselves. 7/?

Whatever society or community emerges from or comes after ISXX needs to (after writing its anti harassment policies) appoint an archivist/ team. Or maybe a society such as SMFS / their members could do it. 8/?

I would love to be involved in such a project. But, as we know with archives, they can have the trouble of replicating racism/ white feminism if not handled with care. There are already medievalists of color & allies already doing this work (the screenshots! The blogs!) 7/?

So yes: thesis handed in, new alt ac job settled down. I’ve been slow and watching but now ready.
@ISASaxonists@erik_kaars@dorothyk98@margiehousley (I know there are others but my Twitter isn’t searching names well!) what’s the best way to go forward with this? 10/?1 reply 0 retweets 10 likesShow this thread -

I love this. Some of us had discusses this a bit last month and went to try and get access to the archive of the listserv. It's been wiped out, so unless people have been saving all the messages over the years themselves we won't have a full archive.

Would definitely be worth pooling what people have saved. I think this is a great idea as well.

Yes. I would be happy to send what I have to someone. I was a virtual packrat as a grad student and mostly saved messages related to my research but I bet I have about 15 years worth of select emails from the listserv saved on an abandoned laptop somewhere.

You just need to find one person on the Listserv who never deletes their emails (it would be me if I was on it, haven't ever deleted a single one) and you should be good! If they've got a gmail account it's easy to search too.
