It's heartbreaking. A student's gender identity is not a "fuss." How can people posting these things claim they have an inclusive classroom? Maybe they don't claim that or want it. It's heartbreaking. Our colleagues, our students, and our friends deserve so much better than this.

Maybe this isn’t a good idea but I’m personally of the opinion that names should be named. How many of these people have trans students? It’s worrying, esp with regards to the transphobia so endemic in UK academia as is.

That's my impulse as well. I'm not on the listserv, however. And despite my endemic lack of impulse control I feel like it might not be a good idea for a grad student (either of us) to do the naming...

I mean lbr, one of the most recognized right wing academics is from Canada and at U of T and is a transphobe to boot. Canada has laws against shit like this unless you can hide behind academic freedom.
