Been ruminating on questions from my paper last night, and the methodological differences between understanding two similar processes in two adjacent cultures and why that’s different from discussing influenced and movement of ideas.
The difference is hard to quantify but they are different. I am not looking at trade in ideas/ideologies. But what are the circumstances to lead two different societies to develop similar ideas.

It’s a cultural milieux perhaps? I am wary of assigning some kind of pan Indo-European idea to this, I think that leads down a bad path.

Ultimately the relations and closeness doesn’t necessarily inform their development, but their relationship to one another is helpful for understanding society as a whole at that time.
