I’m not even sure how to read this, to be honest.

In any event, if I object to your behaviour I should not be cowed I to saying nothing because you are higher up in my field. This persistent fear that ECRs have to saying anything against senior academics is because of this sort of thing.

In any event, the nature of my thesis usually means I cannot avoid citing people I have had disagreements with. Case in point

I realized I said in any event twice. God I’m tired. Why can’t people just...apologize when they are called out? Idgi.

I thoroughly despise conflict and the idea that people might be vindictive towards me. I’ve experienced it throughout my life though because ultimately I don’t like to back down and I am opinionated.

sorry you've had to deal with that crap, and hope your day turned for the better!

This is incredibly fucked up. I’m so sorry. And he has been very polite to senior (white) faculty, so clearly he’s just doing this bc he feels like there won’t be consequences for attacking a grad student. I’m sorry. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

Thanks Erik, I appreciate it. Not sure what can be done, I suspect he won’t apologize now.

This is completely and totally unacceptable. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. As Erik pointed out he's been totally civil to more senior ppl so it's just a fucked up abuse of hierarchy. You don't deserve this and I hope you're taking some time for self care

-
Yeah it’s fucked up. Thanks Chris.
