I am an early medieval historian working on Ireland and Britain. The types of history I do are a big mashup of cultural, anthropological, sociopolitical, intellectual, and ideological.

Mostly I work on kingship, that is what my current PhD project is on. Less about specific kings and more about what made them kings, and why. What were the methods employed? Why did they work?

My approach is based on the mentalites approach championed and lauded by Marc Bloch, a pre-eminent scholar from the early-mid 20th c. French Jewish man who was part of the Resistance, killed by the Gestapo. His theories on feudalism have been built upon and moved past but

He was also a champion of comparative history. He called for comparisons with medieval Europe and E. Asia for example. This was very formative for me.

Hi! New follower, so sorry you've had to deal w/ this. I'm a theologian, not a medievalist, but I'm looking at shifting uses of the term "temeritas" from Augustine onwards (and backwards, bc. of role of Cicero etc.) so not completely unrelated! Glad to have found you on here.
