I say this as someone who thinks there is something to be gleaned from EM Irish texts about pre-Christian beliefs: the shit that people come up with around Samhain etc is some of the most annoying nonsense ever and it makes studying these belief systems nigh impossible.

Largely because attempting to do any research on this nets me the worst results, and they are usually over 100 years old during that Gaelic paganism obsession/inventions and also I get associated with the people who perpetuate said nonsense.
