And also, since I saw so much hand wringing from a certain Irish historian because we were apparently ignoring how "English" reaffirms colonialism in Ireland, these guys hated the Irish, Jewish people, Black people, and basically anyone who wasn't "Anglo-Saxon".

A few years ago I would not have recommended anyone read the writings from the British Israelites but now I'd say to any white scholars out there: this group is a perfect example of how they twist history and archaeology for their own racist ends.

I mean, would it take a group of anti-Irish white supremacists destroying one of Ireland's most famous sites to find the Ark of the Covenant to make you white medievalists care about changing the name? If it does, look long and hard on yourself.

I know the name discussions among medievalists seem to have died down, which is why I wish I remembered this stuff a few weeks back.

But frankly, this kind of thing shouldn't be what makes you care, but it was very clear from a number of medievalists that they could only see as far as the end of their noses and their refusal to acknowledge what Dr MRO and other BIPOC in the field were saying.
