Hey #medievaltwitter, does anyone know of books regarding kingship in the global Middle Ages that isn’t a really white-gazey sort of thing? There are some books out there that I was recommended before but they were....not great.
A lot of the stuff I read is like ethnographic studies from the 1960s - or they seem like it - about kingship in Africa (never on a specific country or people). Granted, when searching for "kingship" and "ritual" you get these very dated anthropological studies.

It seems like kingship/ritual is often consigned to these really outdated forms of study (or they should be outdated). STOP MAKING RITUAL WEIRD. It isn't weird. Everyone has rituals.
