Again, not a member, but can you please explain why you think ECR should be on the Board? Their voices are vital, but they are also more vulnerable. IMO, it’s the responsibility of ppl with more job security, solid CVs to step up & protect/mentor ECRs.

And what happens is that it is ECRs who commit to the unpaid emotional labour on Twitter and other social media to call this out are frequently put down because we are ECRs. Yeah we are worried about jobs in the field, getting published. Decisions overseen by senior members.

Having senior academics in charge but then having ones who seem to have our best interests in mind on the surface seems to be a good idea. But I’ve seen senior academics lately who talk to the talk but don’t walk the walk, so to speak.

I can’t argue with that. My comment was not a “sit down” to ECRs — it was a “step tf up” to those who should be helping to carry the load. Although it does also help to have the experience to know which parts of the system are more vulnerable, fwiw.

We’re not saying no senior faculty. Only that we want rep too. Asking for ppl to step up only goes so far. And tbh, many ECRs have experience with managing such things. I’ve been on boards and committees, albeit for smaller things, for 11 years.
