EXACTLY. The use of the name by racists IS NOT NEW. It goes back to the 1800s! There has been DECADES of scholarship on this. It's not that racists recently seized upon it or something!

Also re: the name change - these are the same scholars who quibble over lexical variations & spend their lives choosing VERY SPECIFIC WORDS to translate their favorite texts. These people understand the weight and power of word choice - only when it involves upholding whiteness.

Also, dare I say, that the word “Anglo-Saxon” as it is spelled with thit hyphen is a choice. I mean, they could have translated Angulsaxonum as Anglesaxon. They didn’t. They made up a word to translate it into, and that word has a long history of being racist.

People act like language and translation aren’t affected by politics and the people calling for this I am sure have debated how certain things can be understood in English.
