Early Medieval England (or something to that effect) is the least worst of the options in rebranding AS studies without erasing people. The renaming comes from a very real concern and a real danger to our peers and students.
Except the English existed. That’s just a fact. Yes, English nationalism is awful and horrible but using the word “English” doesn’t perpetuate that. What perpetuates it is this idea that England is this unbroken constant that was formed from a protonation 1500 years ago.

Yeah, but the problem is that I think the term "English" inevitably does perpetuate that. Any linguistic difference - plus stressing that the proto-English weren't the only peoples here - helps make the distinction.
