hey so remember when I had that article accepted w/o revisions? Got proofs back. It's been rewritten. Pages and pages of text that isn't mine. Normal in pop press work, sure, but I've never seen it in scholarly publishing before. Anyone dealt w/this before? Do I pull the piece?

I have never heard of this happening. You get a lot of editorial horror stories passed around but I have never heard of this happening. If this is the copy editor's work, then I would send an email to the editor-in-chief or someone else who works on it to ask.

Regardless, do not accept this without pushing back. I understand the fear of burning bridges, but you should defend your work as is. Check over the contract but if it comes down to it, don’t accept them. Someone else suggested contacting the publisher which is also a good idea.
