Strangely enough "make residential areas so shit that nobody will want to live there/they develop massive social problems" is not generally considered a good approach to keeping house prices down.

People already live here. Yes, more homes can and should be built. Doesn’t have to be “first homes then amenities” though. It’s not like we don’t already have parks and malls and pedestrian spaces that would be improved through adding these things.
