I love raptors and find myself increasingly disturbed by birds of prey displays @IMC_Leeds and now York’s Museum Gardens. Can see there might be a conservation/awareness angle but it seems exploitative and cruel to keep owls etc. sitting out in heat of day for people to gawp at.

Hi Amanda, the bird's were all undercover of our marquees all day unless they wanted to sunbathe, which a few did love yesterday.

I appreciate the response and you do appear to have high animal welfare standards. It’s more the broader principle for me (I’m increasingly conflicted about zoos, too, though recognise there are many fine ones.) But I also wonder how your owls fare, being nocturnal animals.

The owls they had last year were diurnal owls from Africa. Not all owls are nocturnal, and the ones in York may not have been either.
