Am I the only one who hates those social experiment videos where bloggers and tv crews film unknowing homeless people and what they do with some money they find? It seems exploitative and like they are going “look, homeless people can be good too!”
So the guy goes and returns his stuff to Target to give the blogger his money.

Cue the “awwww” moment, right? Except if that guy didn’t return his stuff then he’d be called selfish etc even though he would be well within his rights to keep that stuff. He had no obligation.

Anyway the blogger was like, that’s amazing, here’s another $500.

So the guy is crying and stuff and they explain the experiment.

And this feels gross and exploitative and manipulative.

Like if you are gonna give money to a homeless guy you don’t need to prove that he’s gonna spend it on “worthy” items or whatever. Or that he’s a good person who’s give it back to a stranger.
