No. That isn't true at all. There are no checks, people are asked to sign without confirming they meet the criteria and there could be multiple signatures from the same person. Exceedingly poor process.

Actually it seemed like a pretty good process, including email checks and checks for duplication. So you know, quite a good attempt at robustness.

Well no it wasn't. Trust me on this. There was no checking of validity.

Having sent literally hundreds of personal emails since Wednesday confirming people’s identity, allow me to assure you that there WERE checks.

There is apparently at least 1 undergraduate in the published list of signatories.

"academics and other colleagues" It wasn't specifically only for professors and instructors to sign.

I wouldn't say undergraduates came under that umbrella. I'd also argue that the letter is presented as having specifically academic authority which is seriously undermined by the fact that people from other sectors have signed.

Well since there is an offer there for you to point out who shouldn’t be on that list because they don’t teach, why not get to it? And then they can verify. Because frankly it sounds like you are assuming a lot about people and their teaching exp.

Exactly that. I should also perhaps point out that I already have a file with close to 400 names that were removed from the letter because they were ineligible. (That doesn’t include duplicates.)

So you're agreeing that the signatories were only supposed to be teaching staff? I think yous all need to get your story straight. It really isn't looking good, especially given the criteria specified in past tweets.

I only said teaching because that would probably have been what any undergrads on the list have done. Sorry I didn't also give a comprehensive list of what "university professional" means. I'm not the one who made the petition lmao.

Of course - but then Caroline agreed with your definition so we're no further on. I'll leave yous all to keep digging. You don't need me to undermine the letter. You've done that yourselves.
