Let's be insistent about pronouns at #imc2019 in protest of the anti-trans letter currently circulating among UK scholars. Let's ensure that @IMC_Leeds is a safe & affirming space for trans & nonbinary scholars. Let's protect & support colleagues & students.

Presenters can mention this during their panels and make it clear that LGBTQ+ scholars and allies do not support the misgendering or erasure of trans & nonbinary people. We can put pressure on universities to create livable workspaces & classrooms for everyone.

We don't have to work within a narrow set of choices, either. That's what Sharpies and glitter pens are for! Modify your badges. Find joy in representation. Protect vulnerable community members & intervene where you have the energy/security to do so.

Conference badges shouldn't be ID/gatekeeping devices w/institutional affiliations. They should reflect *who we are*. And if you're not comfortable disclosing pronouns or other info, don't let anyone force you. Draw stars or cats or list TV trivia or fave books.

Let's just queer the badge as a document as much as possible. Write whatever you want in that space--whatever you feel comfortable disclosing. You don't owe anyone explanations. But we do owe each other safety & kinship. Conferences should be about love rather than fear.

Thanks for mentioning this, I’ll modify my badge when I get there (I hope I remember haha).
