Game of Thrones is boring and its "basis" in medieval history is a very poor analogue, and seems to be based in some nineteenth-century historiographical thought that depicted nomadic Asian tribes as barbaric rapists and that life was generally just a hellscape for everyone.https://twitter.com/ellle_em/status/1110251426452770818 …

Things weren't awesome, but the way it depicts life is just far too grim and unrealistic for what it would have been.

GoT being grim is a stylistic choice and is intentionally, though subtly, subverted. The books are problematic, but the message is that human power stems from violence, but the universe has a will of its own and it bends towards righteousness and justice.

I know it's a stylistic choice. I also think it's bad one. It would be better without the extreme amount of gendered violence and the insistence that it's some sort of mirror for early medieval Europe.

It's not a bad choice. It's a choice you don't like the outcome of, and that's an important distinction. I hate Dragon Age and think Inquisition's choice to inundate the player with inconsequential side quests makes the game unplayable. That doesn't make it bad, just bad for me
