Game of Thrones is boring and its "basis" in medieval history is a very poor analogue, and seems to be based in some nineteenth-century historiographical thought that depicted nomadic Asian tribes as barbaric rapists and that life was generally just a hellscape for everyone.https://twitter.com/ellle_em/status/1110251426452770818 …
And frankly the depiction of women is terrible. The individual named characters are great...but it's the unnamed ones, the ones who die, who are subject to violence, sexual and otherwise...it's not good.

People need to stop using white-skinned elves as a stand-in for oppressed races in games. I'm looking at you Dragon Age, and also The Witcher.

Sexual and racial violence does not improve your work inherently, and generally if you are a privileged person writing about disadvantaged people, your depiction of such acts is usually unnecessary and gratuitous.

Stop using "historical accuracy" as a reason to keep out BIPOC from your books. Or LGBTQAP+ people. Or women. Or disabled people. Or any marginalised group. A) you're writing FANTASY so that argument is moot and b) They existed and traveled in medieval Europe.
