#Web30 I remember we got internet in 1994 or 1995 when we got our first PC (we had a mac that died). I remember vaguely all the terrible search engines before google, some which seem like a fever dream because I haven't been able to find record of them now.

The ones I can find record of were infoseek and netscape, which I used fairly often. Also AllTheWeb which was better than Google for a time.

but I remember how shitty search algorithms were. You could search "Catherine the Great" (which I did) and get nothing about her at all.

Speaking of getting a PC: I spent a lot of time on the windows 95 version of paint making art that consisted of line-drawn circlular and ovaloid shapes, colouring them in with the bucket, and then naming them "mitochondria" as I saved them to the desktop.
