Nothing to do with the words being related; variation and conflation of names is just very common, esp. in genealogies. @cyocum can probably tell you more about the individuals in question here

Sadly, I am on holiday at the moment but yes this happens pretty frequently but those individuals do ring a bell. When I have a chance I will do a DB search for you.
