An example of how wide-ranging early medieval Europe was: Priscianus Caesariensis, a North African scholar who taught at Constantinople, wrote a grammatical treatise that was very popular among Irish monks both in Ireland and on the Continent.
The text was written mostly in Latin, with several sections in Greek, and glossed in Old Irish. It was also popular in England, as Bede, Alcuin, and others made reference to it.
