Does anyone have any recs for traditional Japanese or Chinese music? Vocals/instrumental both okay.
I don’t know how else to describe it. Historical might not be the right term because there are presumably modern musicians composing this stuff. Use of traditional instruments (like a guzheng) in traditional music styles I guess.

Not inspired by traditional music or using traditional instruments in popular music.

So...traditional. That is the only term I can use to describe what I’m looking for. Folk music maybe? But that is a broad category. I like Chinese mountain songs (Shan’ge), but it took my ages to find what that was called.

Hm. I'm sure it is out there, but you might need to go searching in the specific languages for it. I think a lot of what gets marketed in English is the more modern/mixed styles.

To be more specific on my recs: Yoshida Bros use traditional instruments (a lot of shamisen) and traditional styles but sometimes layer in pop sounds or themes as well. They have a huge discography though so worth searching through.
