I am so sick of the fallout hot takes and discourse. Can I just have my open world post apoc game in peace without feeling like an idiot because I don’t especially enjoy the first Fallout games.

I know none of this is directed at me but I honestly feel like a tool because I unironically enjoy the Bethesda Fallout games and I really don’t agree with a lot of the criticism that I’m seeing all over my TL.

Fallout 1 was very serious and confusing, Fallout 2 was gratuitous and highly problematic in a lot of places. But damn if I never see any critiques of the older games.

I am veering hard into the unpopular opinions here.

Fallout 3 was highly critical of vault tek, the plot is simple but straightforward. The world and sidequests were great. BoS could have been improved upon but ah well. It was also critical of the American nostalgia.

Fallout 4 had complex characters and the main quest was pretty good. Settlements were awesome, don’t @ me. Preston is a relatable character who gets undeserved flak, and the positive outlook on moving forward in the wasteland for humanity was refreshing.

I also thought that the nuclear family thing was very much deconstructed. The BoS were more like how they were in the first fallout games, and thus a good “bad” faction. I wish they kept in the choice to remove Maxon though.

World looked cool af, lots of great locations to discover. Design-wise, the use of vertical space was well done.

FTR, I’m saying all this because I have only seen negative tweets about Fallout in my TL for the past several weeks.

Like most Bethesda games, I love Fallout 4 most for my ability to just ignore the main story and go haring off around the wasteland engaging in fuckery.

This is also true. I once sat on a building seeing how far I could blow stuff up in the distance.
