I will absolutely play this with friends and also I will absolutely bemoan the fact that this totally dismisses the critical perspective of the best Fallout games in favor of a manifest destiny (with nukes) vibe.

I mean, we don't know if the story is going to take a critical look, because it may very well do so. And it's not the first Fallout game with nukes.

It is the first fallout game without NPCs or civilizations, which are the vectors through which critical storytelling has happened in the past

Do we know if there are no NPCs? Todd seemed to stress there was story and whatnot.

otherwise it strikes me as being an incredibly empty world if it's as big as it's going to be, with dedicated servers with only a dozen or so people.

I get what you're saying about the lack of civilisation, but one thing I hope the game addresses: is everyone living from Fallout 1-4 descended from vault dwellers (with the exception of BoS)? Or did people in fact survive in areas that were less hit?

so is it possible that, while we go out to rebuild civilisation or w/e, that in fact that's already happening? What about non-feral ghouls? Idk, I hope these are things the game deals with. But I doubt there are no NPCs, that seems untenable if there is a story.
