I am not looking forward to all the "lose that quarantine weight" New Year bullshit that's about to drop, so here's a reminder - your body has been processing so much stress and trauma that if you are alive and healthy you are good. Your body is good as it is. You are good.

Today the Supreme Court takes up California v. Texas today, and if they rule to overturn the ACA, it will create chaos for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, and their families. Let us count the ways.

always be critical about who is extended the privilege of empathy. empathy can be weaponized as a tool of oppression and violence like everything else. when those in power make calls for empathy, ask empathy *for whom* and take note of who is not afforded that privilege.

Watching all of this unfold in places like Philly, Detroit, and Atlanta, I just can't stop thinking about the decades, really the centuries, of pathology surrounding Black ppl and the vote. The way Black folks have been scapegoated & maligned, but continue to come through anyway.

The News is seemingly purposefully ignoring Native Americans again (even when talking about Arizona!) But there are SIX STATES where the Native voting population is higher than Trumps win margin. Considering Natives have the biggest room for voter turnout growth, maybe care?

Notice how police were deployed in large numbers to arrest pro-democracy demonstrators while armed white mobs are allowed to disrupt the ballot counting process without police interference.

We are celebrating water being found on the moon, but a significant portion of the retweets on this are from people in Selangor (Malaysia) experiencing a major water supply disruption due to pollution in raw water sources. We are not even meeting basic water needs on EARTH.

To those of us who’ve strictly adhered to quarantine for 8 months, watching others dine out and mix households, don’t be discouraged. Your sacrifice has likely saved lives. Someone may get to lie down next to their spouse tonight or call their mom because you put humanity first.

So, when you hear "recovered" don't think "all better." Because it doesn't necessarily mean that. I intentionally don't describe myself as "recovered" but "survived." I am going to be disabled for the rest of my life. Covid is not a joke and herd immunity is not the answer.
