Along with today's 0.12.0 release (), we are proud to release the DataLad Handbook 📙 - a user-focused, code-along crash course on (research) data management with DataLad: A thread on what it is all about:

Nice depiction of scientific data analysis workflow here from - many parts go into a single scientific analysis, and without sharing all of them we can't reproduce the science or see the whole picture. – mjesto: Building AW

This is a typical data workflow in science. DataLad addresses this complexity better than an advanced usage of Git: data and access are preserved should DataLad vanish + uncompromised decentralization. Michael Hanke at

. is presenting , a git-based version control and data management tool. Git doesnt manage large files well so usually isn't good for data storage - but git annex helps solves this. Datalad helps this work across multiple repos, yay! – mjesto: Building AW

Have I mentioned how much I love the obvious CC-BY-SA licence shown RIGHT THERE on the slides? 😍 I should do this from now on

"Use existing software, don't start from scratch" 🙌🙌 I'd add _contribute_ to existing software, don't just complain it doesn't do what you want. Though the bigger problem is still that novelty is too incentivised in research evaluation. 😔

Call to action: would you like to work on scientific software? Here's some advice - especially make sure to advertise your software and make it easy to build. These are also good guides for any software, so there's nothing to lose!
