You were doing so well. There is plenty of evidence that their were blacks in the Confederate ranks to one extent or another. Willing? I doubt. Extensive? Surely not. But were there some? Yes. Don't play with absolutes. They rarely pan out.https://www.theroot.com/the-controversy-over-black-confederate-soldiers-1790863569 …

No, there is no evidence of black Confederate soldiers ever seeing combat, and that terrible article doesnt provide any. The article itself (which you did not read) notes that *slaves* were forced to do menial labor for the confederate army, which is not being a *soldier.*

Here's another one citing, among others, Fredrick Douglas. And not from a southern apologist.https://www.theroot.com/yes-there-were-black-confederates-here-s-why-1790858546 …

Douglass’ repetition of secondhand rumors does not overturn our knowledge of what Confederate policy was for which there is ample documentation. Even the suspicion of black ancestry would result in a Rebel soldier being purged. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.pic.twitter.com/RZk0JSENWj

Umm...this dude is an African American Studies Professor from Havard. Not that I'm into credentials, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this issue.
-
Yes, and this claim of his has been ridiculed by his peers as baseless because he has no evidence for it.
-
Ridiculed sure. Wrong? Different issue. It seems hard to overcome primary sources from the 19c without just saying, "It doesn't fit my world view so it's bunk." But you do that. I guess Benjamin Butler was just making up stuff too? Well, it was Butler. So maybe.
-
the way history works is you have to document contemporaneous claims. You don’t assume they’re true and swallow them wholesale. There is ample documentation confederate policy against black troops until the end of the war and none of black units in combat. http://cwmemory.com/2015/01/20/john-stauffer-goes-looking-for-black-confederates-and-comes-up-empty-again/ …

This “black confederate” myth really proves why Black Reconstruction should be a mandatory high school reading.

Once argued with a highly UNeducated relative who claimed that the black regiment depicted in "Glory" were fighting FOR the Confederacy. I wish I were kidding.

There may have black confederate soldiers but to think they were fighting voluntarily is, well, insane.

Thank you. The idea a slave can freely serve anyone is ludicrous on its face. If Silas Chandler (owner's surname) took Andrew Chandler home, Silas was also returning to his own home. He needed the goodwill of his owner to survive the coming days as a freed black man.
