Yesterday I shared 's article arguing that the Tories' appeal is as priests of the Anglo-British national myth, which stands on two historical pillars: Empire and WW2. In today's broadcast: a war memorial and a Union flag flying over a ship built in 1901.

Wreaths of poppies at the foot of a war memorial. Small wooden crosses, each bearing a poppy, planted in the grass in the foreground.

Subtitles: "A war memorial in the town centre."
A Union flag, on a flagpole, outstretched in the wind. In the background, the cables and ropes of a sailing ship.

Subtitles: "you'll get with the Scottish Conservatives."

Greetings from the “third world”, and fuck right off. Few things are as tiring as American exceptionalism dismissing all the parts about itself it hates as “third-world” and “not-American”. It’s all America. Go stand in it. Keep the third world out of it.

Hundreds of thousands of DC residents had to endure a coup in their backyard today, go into curfew at 6pm, and fear for their personal safety. None of them have any representation in Congress.

You can tell today is the first time it actually became real to much of the political & media establishment that things aren’t getting back to normal just because Biden was elected & they willed it by the power of American myth-making.

What if this government is neither irrational nor incompetent, but simply pursuing the interests that it serves rather than any others, while possessing a very clear sense of exactly what its own electoral base will tolerate and what it won’t?

The former FM of Scotland (and paid adviser for PwC), not content with enabling a group of a Covid conspiracists, is now pushing this utter nonsense. He's also a (theoretically) Labour member, but is clearly now aligning himself against trade unions. Shameful but not surprising.
