Here's my hope that Trump will wait a while before he nominates someone. He wants to get Cruz and others to grovel for it before he gives it to someone else.

Yes. But, strategically, is it really smart for the GOP to rush it through, rather than running on it? Winning the WH and Senate means Dems could expand the SCOTUS. Maybe Dems should be okay with it happening fast? Maybe that helps in November?
