Can I add money too - as well as makeup, it costs a lot to keep hair maintained and hands manicured to the 'expected' standard. Additionally, women are expected to wear a more varied wardrobe than their male counterparts who could easily wear the same suit for several days.

Women expectations are set by themselves. If you work at a job that mandates manicures and dye-jobs - I'd check out discrimination laws and/or find another employer

From my understanding, as long as they look presentable women aren’t expected to do anything more to go to work. What type of company expects a woman to put in effort on makeup and hair... not a great one!

Looking “presentable” means different things in different industries. And in different regions. In the South, it’s a part-time job.

Yes! I've often thought that were I ever to be PM, or in public role, I would buy six identical black suits and white shirts, and wear nothing else. People would soon get bored of commenting on what I wore and have to focus on what I said.

Same for people of color. If they go to a store without dressing up they might be taken for a criminal. At work- taken less seriously. It’s a time tax

Seems like a lot of people commenting don’t know the research that shows women’s perceived credibility is affected by their appearance to a much greater degree than that of men.
