Thread (and admission): 1) I want to be honest, in congress I have only a few votes that in hindset, I regret. My biggest regret was voting against the first impeachment of Donald Trump.

You should regret not supporting the Voting Rights Act.

Uh huh. And Trump very well may be the GOP nominee in 2024. The Trump base is in love with him. They want him and nobody else.

Better late than never. Our government is an imperfect system because it’s run by imperfect men & women. Sometimes the adult thing to do is admit regret.

It takes courage to admit this. Respect. Keep up the fight.

@AdamKinzinger I'd be fascinated to know what your reasoning was at the time. How would you have defended voting against conviction? I want to understand how decent Republicans generally rationalize their defense of Trump... but most still aren't self-aware enough to explain it. -
I'm pretty sure the reasons are what they usually are... It was a cowardly political decision to follow the path of least resistance regardless of the overwhelming evidence. That he regrets it now is fine, but it's a little too late.

Appreciate the regret Why did you vote against voting rights? I honestly want to know. Wouldn't you rather flip and be a Democrat?

What about voting rights? I was so disappointed that you and so many in your party gave empty sentiments to John Lewis and couldn't be bothered to vote for it. It hurts POC like myself and disabled Vietnam Vet dad who now lives in a red state that is gunning against us voting.

It’s all tied together, slowly he will get that. The attacks on voting rights from within his party, withholding funding to Ukraine. It’s all tied together! It’s an outright attack on democracy.
