    1. When it comes to facing global warming and choices for our cherished "project of civilization," we've been asking the wrong question over and over again.

    5. "...that is where [Olmstead] and the designers of great open worlds meet. Thoughtful consideration of landscape and experience, the maps of a great game bring artifice to bear to make something artful. They are places of wonder where stories can unfold on their own."

    3. "... great maps aren’t made — they’re carefully and artfully designed, just like the perfect park. Maps, experiences, art, and design weighed heavily on Frederick Law Olmsted’s mind when he was given the chance to lay out Central Park in the 1850s."

    2) "... true open worlds need more than just a fully explorable map. Being stuck on a virtual desert island can quickly become as boring as being stuck on a real desert island. The genius of a great open-world map demands more than just the computing power..."

    1) Central Park in NYC was the first great Open World video game map. Yeah, that may sound crazy but read my explanation of what Red Dead Redemption (), & Horizon Zero Dawn () owe to great designer Frederick Olmsted.

What’s your Love Number? Unless you are a rigid planetary body susceptible to a tidal potential, you don’t have one.

“Vortex Coronagraph”. Coolest instrument name since the Flux Capacitor. But it’s real and it may change exoplanet science.

Yup. This is it. Especially when it comes to the nature of first person experience - i.e. being an "experiencer".

“By remaining open to conflicting proposals regarding the nature of light, we allow the wide ranging drama of the past its place, and so read the full biography of light, rather than only the fragment we have written ourselves” This could be said of many subjects (I.e. Mind).

This is my new favorite science podcast. And it’s not just because of the ultra-fun discussion of science in science fiction movies we did. Sharp, bright, accessible. The team is doing a great job.

This was a wonderful conversation and I was honored to share the stage with these two authors. Also one of the rare opportunities I get to don my one-and-only @hickyfreeman suit. When I wear it I feel like a jazz trumpeter from 1957.

I’ve always liked the idea that everyone gets 20 pages of journal space a year free so you use it wisely and only publish your best, most important and most relevant work.
