One thing to remember about these pioneers: they played in thick, heavy britches. In the late 19th c, the Rational Dress Movement called for the average weight of women’s underwear to be halved. From 14lb to 7lb. (Yes, I weighed my underwear to compare: 156g, or just 5.5oz)

  3. Are employing/volunteering more Meet & Greet staff? Seemed to be many more than I remember yesterday (one bias in research was Not asking for help when trying to find toilets)

  5. Spent a whole day researching museum toilets to get some data to prove 2 points: 1) the data is biased because of who collected it 2) the data analysis using averages creates biases

  11. These are not obscure female scientists at all. It’s worryingly sexist BBC clickbait to frame them as unknown. “Seven female scientists you may not have heard of - but should know all about”

I really cannot emphasize enough that the auto industry's own marketing research has identified SUV buyers as profound assholes

  13. ATT (average time to toilet) is 121 steps for nearly 30 million people is not the actual point of the exercise. Having a number to understand variances for people with differing needs and capacities is the point. The average is not helpful, the variance …

  15. Finally listened to this on language use in - trying to find balance between professional jargon (how doctors/nurses speak and how hospital signs are phrased) and simple but not childish language is tricky but researchers have worked on it well

  16. TLDR version: there’s no point involving people with disabilities in design consultations if they don’t have the power to say No to designs pushed by professionals.

  21. Entrance to V&A - wayfinding signage is tiny dark blob to far left. It’s mostly hidden behind the Cars exhibition signage. This is how prioritise their offer over visitor needs.
