Yesterday made me realize the missing component to sport that I had been searching for a very long time: multiculturalism & sportsmanship. It made me proud to be apart of a multicultural team, as well as having the capacity to share the court with some real talent. 🏀

You can only be as educated and opened minded as what you are exposed to. This goes for the same in sport. It’s always the people who have the biggest egos, backed up by other insecure people that cause a system to fail. Fortunate for me, I can always learn from experience.

Truth is, you can’t blame an entire system, because it’s the people that make up that system and most importantly the people that run it or give into the peer pressure of those close minded individuals. At the end of the day it’s values, and your up bringing.

I am fortunate I was exposed to these experiences because having been involved in “exclusive” sporting environments in the past only showed me how closed minded a community can be & how structural and systemic violence can arise.

Growing up, I learned to compete, interact with other races, genders cultures and it led me to grow mentally and physically. Looking at your own circle ⭕️ (for me that revolves around sport) always tells me a lot about how open-minded someone is to experience & their values.

Appreciation for cultural diversity is not only essential for our co-existence but in sport, it helps build athletes and community. Stepping away from “exclusive” atmospheres is perhaps one of the best things I have done for myself in sport and development.

Went into OT and claimed the victory tonight! So proud of the unit and ready to own the court this season. Highlight: that clutch 3 pointer. Document the process & reflect. 🏀

I thank track and field for helping me keep my composure in high pressure situations. It's probably the most ultimate form of athleticism because of its transferability - that is if you know how to move and translate that skill on the track, on the field, on ice or court.

The more I grow with sport, the more it's becoming evident sport can be more mental than physical at times. You can have all the strength, agility and speed in the world but if you don't know how to compose and control your emotion in high pressure situations, you won't perform.

But, needless to say, you'll always find a handful of prunes that doesn't showcase sportsmanship on the court or field, but hey, it's those moments that have really brought out my inner potential as an athlete. What's your performance trigger?

I've learned that not all environments harness my true potential in sport, but that's forced me to become more of a leader in sport and helped to not only seek out environments where I can truly connect with my desire to compete but also mentor and connect with real athletes.

Things I find very disturbing within my own Tamil community (past & present): self comparison, huge egos, meaningless awards, people walking around thinking they’re the “best” at any discipline when y’all make it ‘exclusive’👀😂, plz just stop y’all make me cringe. Be humbled.

Desensitized through the process of systemic education. Sometimes it’s always refreshing to unplug from prescribed learning & actively pursue knowledge that excites you. Always do you own self guided learning, to expand your mind and truly grow. Learning should not be robotic.

Human anatomy dissections are really starting to grow on me. Visual & proprioceptive touch really helped me absorb the content. At the beginning of the school year it really took an emotional toll on me but I can see how one can become desensitized, BUT never taken for granted.
